What a sweet story and a wonderful way to explain differences, emotions, and acceptance. The dandelion could not understand why the gardener cared for and delighted in the other flowers like irises, roses, and lilies but scoffed at the dandelion, calling it a weed and not a flower. The ladybug and butterfly both considered the dandelion as a flower and said there was no such thing as weeds.
It takes the visit of an ailing friend who becomes excited seeing the dandelion and explains the many uses and health benefits of the entire plant. Then the joy the child find in playing amongst the dandelions, making chains, and then having the seeded plant to blow on and making wishes.
Dandelions are some of the first food for foraging bees and are critical to the hive. For my grandchildren, the love when they find "wish-flowers" and can make a wish and blow them.
